Mathsmith provides an application program to enhance the Canvas Learning Management System's mathematical and engineering capabilities.
Instructors can create assignments and populate the assignments with their own problems or choose problems from available libraries.
Assignments are automatically graded, allowing students to receive immediate feedback on their comprehension of course material. Mathematically or logically equivalent solutions are accepted by the application, reducing student frustration associated with having to “match” a particular solution.

Introduction to Electric Circuits
The course materials provided here are appropriate for a either a 3 unit (semester system) or 5 unit (quarter system) introduction to electric circuits class. Students should have completed at least a first course in calculus; concurrent enrollment in a differential equations class is beneficial. Due dates in the Canvas course provided here are for a typical quarter system. These can be easily modified to accommodate a semester course.
Topics covered include:
- Resistive circuits analysis (circuits reduction, nodal and mesh analysis, Thevinin's and Norton's theorems)
- First and second order circuits
- AC circuit analysis (complex exponentials, impedance)
- Frequency response and first order filters
- Introduction to AC power
Included materials:
- Automatically graded mini-assignments to allow students to immediately gauge their understanding of the material
- Homework assignments
- Sample exams with solutions for students
- Typical exams for use by instructors
- Links to site with supporting educational materials. These include lecture videos, text, examples, and interactive practice problems that provide help and hints.
